Researchers found that surgical clinicians were most interested in learning whether simulation training can improve patient safety and quality of care, according to a study published in the American Journal of Surgery.
For the study, researchers had members of the Association for Surgical Education submit five questions on surgical simulation research. In total, 226 questions were collected, pared down to 74 questions and redistributed to members. Researchers then instructed members to prioritize the research topics on a scale of 1-5.
Topics ranged from simulation effectiveness and outcomes, performance assessment and credentialing and curriculum development. The researchers found the highest ranked question was, "Does simulation training lead to improved quality of patient care, patient outcomes and safety?"
