Charlotte, N.C.-based Novant Health established its first endowed chair at the Novant Health Cancer Institute and announced its inaugural physician.
The Agnes B. and Edward I. Weisiger Endowed Chair will spearhead a medical research team to focus on providing customized cancer care, according to an April 11 system news release.
David Rizzieri, MD, system physician executive for the cancer institute, has been named the inaugural endowed chair. Dr. Rizzieri joined Novant Health in 2021.
The Weisiger family has a long history of gifts to Novant, which have led to other projects such as the Novant Health Agnes B. and Edward I. Weisiger Cancer Institute and the Novant Health Agnes Binder Weisiger Breast Health Center, according to the release.
