Due to the increasing incidence of cancer in younger adults, Englewood (N.J.) Health has launched a specialized program for adults younger than 50 with colorectal cancer.
Colorectal cancer diagnoses in young adults have risen 15% since 2004 and are expected to double by 2030, according to a Jan. 23 news release from the health system.
In addition to peer support groups, the Young Onset Colorectal Cancer Program will connect patients with oncology specialists, surgeons, integrative medicine specialists, as well as fertility, mental health and nutritional support services.
The program is "dedicated to empowering young adults to navigate the challenges of cancer treatment and the journey beyond," Minaxi Jhawer, MD, chief of hematology and oncology at Englewood Hospital said in the release.
Colorectal cancer is the third-leading site of cancer cases and death, according to the American Cancer Society's 2025 cancer statistics report.
