New York hospital, university partner on nursing school

Saint Joseph's Medical Center in Yonkers, N.Y., has donated $2.5 million to support a partnership with the nursing school at the College of Mount Saint Vincent in New York City.

On Nov. 2, the two announced the naming of the Saint Joseph's School of Nursing at Mount Saint Vincent. The partnership will expand research and clinical opportunities for students, student scholarships and support for faculty.

Three details on the partnership to note:

  • Mount Saint Vincent will expand clinical placement opportunities for nursing students at the hospital, including a "preferred employer" program with the hospital for graduates. In turn, Saint Joseph's Medical Center will offer its employees 20% discounted tuition in all of the nursing school's programs. Qualified employees will be considered for honorary adjunct professorships at the college.

  • Students at the Saint Joseph's School of Nursing who commit to employment at the hospital for at least five years after graduation will be offered $25,000 in loan repayment.

  • Catherine Healy-Sharbaugh, DNP, RN, dean of nursing and chief nursing officer at the College of Mount Saint Vincent, will oversee the nursing programs.
