Herb Watson, CRNA, a "living legend" in nurse anesthesia education, died March 7 at age 94.

Mr. Watson earned his nursing degree in 1950, according to an article on Richmond-based Virginia Commonwealth University's website. In 1979, he established the specialty's first master's degree at VCU and founded Nurse Anesthesiology Faculty Associates, a continuing education business.

"Herb was a living legend in the profession," Michael Fallacaro, PhD, CRNA, a professor emeritus at VCU, said in the article.

Mr. Watson served in the Air Force for 21 years, reaching the rank of colonel, and retired in 1977. He is survived by his daughters, sons-in-law, three grandchildren and a great grandson.
