House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) has became the highest-ranking lawmaker to sign a pledge to repeal and replace the health reform law, according to report by The Hill.
Rep. Boehner, who is expected to become speaker of the House as a result of the Nov. 2 election, is among 21 Republicans who have endorsed the pledge put forward by Revere America, a Washington-based conservative group chaired by former New York Gov. George Pataki.
In September, Mr. Boehner told CBS’s "Face the Nation" he wants to repeal the healthcare reform law and replace it with less intrusive healthcare reforms proposed by Republicans.
The Hill said GOP repeal efforts have "a tough road ahead." Even if the effort overcame a presidential veto, erasing the unpopular individual insurance mandate may also mean rescinding the popular prohibition on denying coverage to people with pre-existing conditions, because the two measures are intertwined.
