The owner of a Utah lab pleaded guilty to his role in an $89 million fraud and kickback scheme involving genetic cancer screening tests.
Jordan Bunnell 41, of Sandy, owned, operated and had a financial interest in a marketing call center, a clinical laboratory and a telemedicine company that conducted or arranged for medical tests, according to a March 28 Justice Department news release. He and others allegedly paid kickbacks and bribes in exchange for referrals and orders of genetic cancer screening tests for Medicare and other health plan beneficiaries.
The scheme caused the government and private payers to lose $89 million, according to the release.
Mr. Bunnell faces a maximum of 35 years in prison.
