Five people were charged for their alleged roles in an $11 million Medicare fraud scheme.
Among those charged was Mustafa Hares, MD, 76, of West Bloomfield, Mich., according to a May 4 Justice Department news release. Dr. Hares allegedly completed fraudulent patient charts indicating he had seen a patient when psychology therapy either was never rendered or was induced by kickbacks.
Medicare paid out more than $5.3 million of the $11 million it was billed for as part of the scheme.
The others indicted for their roles in the scheme are:
- Mohamed Kazkaz, 54, of Farmington Hills, Mich.
- Ziad Khalel, 52, of Rochester Hills, Mich.
- Geraldine Letman, 70, of Phoenix
- Gamela Ali, 33, of Dearborn, Mich.
