Wilbert James Veasey, Jr., owner of Dallas-based home health firm Apple of Your Eye Healthcare Services, was sentenced to 17 years in prison and ordered to pay over $23 million in restitution penalties for his role in a long-running Medicare and Medicaid fraud scheme.
Mr. Veasey, along with several others, was convicted of healthcare fraud conspiracy and three counts of healthcare fraud.
He and his co-defendents recruited Medicare patients to sign up for Medicare home healthcare, then falsified visit notes to make it appear as though skilled nursing services were provided and necessary.
Co-defendent Jacques Roy, MD, processed and approved care plans for 11,000 unique Medicare beneficiaries from more than 500 different home health agencies, including Apple of Your Eye.
The FBI, HHS, Office of Inspector General and Texas Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit all participated in the investigation.
