A federal indictment has been issued against a Chicago psychotherapist alleging he filed false claims for treatment provided to "long-dead patients," according to a Chicago Sun Times report.
Jonathan Levy, a licensed clinical social worker and the co-founder of Psychotherapy Associates of Chicago, and one of his employees, Janice Nakao, allegedly "bilked taxpayers out of $500,000 by filing false Medicare claims" for services provided to "long-dead patients" and billing Medicare for services that were never provided to elderly patients, according to the report.
The indictment also claims Psychotherapy Associates of Chicago sent "an unqualified worker to nursing homes," and then billed Medicare as if a licensed clinical social worker had provided the services, according to the report.
