Yale New Haven (Conn.) Health System is reportedly in talks to partner with Wakefield, R.I.-based South County Hospital, according to WPRI-12 News.
A spokesperson for Yale New Haven Health System confirmed the news to WPRI-12 Friday but declined to tell the news organization the specific type of partnership the health organizations are considering, according to the article.
The spokesperson told WPRI-12 the organizations "are focused on looking at solutions that would best meet the healthcare needs of patients in southwestern Rhode Island in the current environment," according to the report.
The announcement comes days after Boston-based Partners Healthcare declared its intent to acquire Providence, R.I.-based Care New England Health System.
If both deals are successful, Providence, R.I.-based Lifespan will become one of the only major health system in the state that is not controlled by an out-of-state entity, according to the report.
