Yale New Haven (Conn.) Health and Wakefield, R.I.-based South County Hospital broke off partnership discussions Feb. 27, according to Rhode Island Public Radio.
Here are three things to know about the decision.
1. Yale New Haven Health and South County Hospital attributed the decision to their inability to "identify a mutually acceptable plan that would meet the needs of our respective communities," according to the organizations' joint statement to Rhode Island Public Radio.
"We believe this is the right course at this point in time and we each remain committed to delivering excellent care for the communities we serve," they added.
2. The organizations entered into preliminary partnership discussions last April.
3. The failed partnership represents the second time in four years Yale New Haven Health's negotiations with a hospital have fallen through.
