St. Joseph's Hospital in Buckhannon, W.Va., has become part of the West Virginia United Health System network, according to a WBOY report.
The sponsorship transfer, completed this week, makes United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, W.Va., part of Fairmont-based WVUHS, the parent corporation for St. Joseph's Hospital.
Through the deal, St Joseph's Hospital can ensure it is sustainable in the long term for the community, according to the report. The Pallottine Missionary Sisters have been running the hospital for more than 94 years, and the transfer will allow that legacy to continue.
"I think the bright spot is that we will continue to have a hospital here in Buckhannon, which is the goal all along in providing care locally as much as possible," said Sue Johnson-Phillippe, St Joseph's Hospital president and CEO, according to WBOY.
Staff and services at St. Joseph's Hospital will not change.
