West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero, La., has officially joined New Orleans-based LCMC Health, according to a news release.
Here are five things to know about the transaction.
1. Parish leaders and the CEO of LCMC Health have signed the necessary documents for the lease of WJMC to LCMC Health to start Oct. 1.
2. The partnership, which received unanimous Jefferson Parish Council approval in February, includes lease payments of at least $200 million over 45 years plus $340 million in capital improvements.
3. WJMC, which serves a community of more than 180,000 people, and the Westbank, La., community will receive the benefits of $340 million in improvements to the hospital, provided by LCMC Health. These investments will take place over a 15-year period. LCMC Health and Jefferson Parish Hospital's first district will also support the ongoing assessments and monitoring of Westbank community health needs.
4. Patients will not experience any disruption in care during or following the transition of WJMC to LCMC Health, officials said. Current physicians and employees will remain in place.
5. LCMC Health was selected as WJMC's partner following a lengthy process that began in 2012. WJMC joins LCMC Health's community hospitals, which include the following hospitals in New Orleans: Children's Hospital, Touro, New Orleans East Hospital and the $1.1 billion University Medical Center New Orleans.
