Pittsburgh-based UPMC is expanding operations in Ireland with the acquisition of its second hospital.
UPMC, in partnership with Ireland-based Institute of Eye Surgery, bought Clare General Hospital. It is a 39-bed facility located in County Kildare, about 20 miles from Dublin.
It will be renamed UPMC Kildare Hospital.
UPMC also will work with the eye surgery institute to create an ophthalmology network in the region.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
