Cleveland-based University Hospitals and Ashland, Ohio-based Samaritan Regional Health System have reached an agreement for SRHS to join the UH health system.
Both systems' boards have approved the deal, but it still requires final regulatory approval. The transaction is expected to close in late 2015.
Through the deal, SRHS will benefit from UH's technology and strong clinical research. UH will invest in making upgrades to SRHS' facilities, equipment, services and technologies.
Commenting on the deal, CEO of University Hospitals Thomas F. Zenty III said, "We and Samaritan's leadership are enthused about the new possibilities we're creating."
