Mobile, Ala.-based University of South Alabama Health is reportedly planning to acquire Ascension Providence Hospital, according to an April 17 report from NBC affiliate WPMI.
The hospital, also located in Mobile, is currently operated by St. Louis-based Ascension, a 139-hospital system.
No official announcement about the purchase has been made, but sources told the news station the university would provide more information April 18. A special meeting is called for April 18 to "consider a strategic transaction," the report continued.
Neither USA Health nor Ascension responded to requests for comment by the time of publication.
