St. Mary's Good Samaritan, based in Centralia, Ill., and Clay County Hospital in Flora, Ill., have signed a nonbinding merger agreement.
Under the deal, 22-bed Clay County Hospital would become part of St. Mary's Good Samaritan by the end of this year. It would become the third hospital within St. Mary's Good Samaritan — the original two are Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mount Vernon, Ill., and St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia. St. Mary's Good Samaritan is a joint venture between St. Louis-based SSM Health Care and Felician Services of Chicago.
Hospital officials said terms of the transaction will not be disclosed. The two organizations began discussions in late 2012 and signed the nonbinding agreement July 11.
St. Louis-based BJC HealthCare currently manages Clay County Hospital, but Clay County actually owns the hospital. In 2011, BJC said Clay County Hospital recorded $19 million in net revenue.
