Forty-five percent of all hospital deals that have been announced this year involve hospitals with 100 or fewer beds as takeover targets, according to a recent report by Irving Levin Associates.
As of Sept. 25, there were 75 total hospital deals announced this year and 34 of those involved small hospitals as the target. Below is a breakdown of how 2015, even with partial data, stacks up against the previous five years concerning small hospital deals.
- Twenty-one percent of the 100 total hospital deals in 2014 involved the acquisition of small hospitals.
- Thirty percent of the 88 total hospital deals in 2013 involved the acquisition of small hospitals.
- Twenty-seven percent of the 107 total hospital deals in 2012 involved the acquisition of small hospitals.
- Thirty-eight percent of the 93 total hospital deals in 2011 involved the acquisition of small hospitals.
- Thirty-seven percent of the 76 total hospital deals in 2010 involved the acquisition of small hospitals.
