The two public hospitals in Salinas, Calif. — Natividad Medical Center and Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System — have initiated talks on a possible affiliation.
The 172-bed Natividad Medical Center and 269-bed Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital are only four miles apart. Hospital officials said collaboration efforts are in the earliest stages as the two organizations are sharing information "to see if there are ways to effectively work together." No timetable has been set for next steps.
A joint statement from Monterey County and Salinas Valley Memorial read, "Healthcare reform encourages collaborative efforts between providers for the benefit of population health and this latest decision to open discussions is simply another opportunity for both entities to review the potential for working together to improve the healthcare delivery system of our region."
