Meriter signs agreement to partner in new Wisconsin rehab hospital: 3 things to know

Madison, Wis.-based Meriter-UnityPoint Health has agreed to partner in the new UW Health Rehabilitation Hospital, also in Madison, according to a WKOW report.

Here are three things to know about the planned partnership.

1. Meriter will become a partner in the new 50-bed hospital, which opened in September. The hospital is currently jointly owned and operated by Madison-based UW Health and Louisville, Ky.-based Kindred Healthcare.

2. Art Nizza, president and CEO of Meriter-UnityPoint Health said the partnership will ensure the hospital is a regional destination for inpatient rehabilitation care, according to the report. He added, "This new rehabilitation facility offers Meriter an opportunity to work with partners to transform care locally, preserving access and quality and channeling resources into a new state-of-the-art, dedicated facility."

3. According to WKOW, Meriter plans to shut down its current 16-bed inpatient rehabilitation by late January 2016, but will continue to offer outpatient therapy and outpatient rehabilitation medicine services.
