LCMC Health Signs Letter of Intent to Operate New Orleans East Hospital

The Orleans Parish Hospital Service District A and New Orleans-based LCMC Health have signed a nonbinding letter of intent to work toward LCMC operating the New Orleans East Hospital.

The 80-bed acute care hospital is under construction at the former site of Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital, which has been closed since Hurricane Katrina, according to a news release. The $130 million project began in January 2013 and is on track for completion in spring 2014.

The city and the Hospital Service District are currently working with Baton Rouge, La.-based Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System to develop the hospital. Franciscan will continue operating the project until the hospital opens, according to the release.

"Since we began, we have advocated for New Orleans East to be part of a larger local healthcare network, and the association with LCMC creates that long-term opportunity once the new facility is complete next spring," said John Finan Jr., president and CEO of Franciscan, in the release.

The LCMC system includes Children’s Hospital, Touro Infirmary, Interim LSU Hospital and the future University Medical Center — all located in New Orleans.
