Hudson Valley HealthAlliance to Affiliate With Larger System Before Closing Hospital

HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley in Kingston, N.Y., has unveiled an updated plan for the system's ongoing consolidation initiative.

In order to remain solvent, HealthAlliance will now complete the initiatives of physician alignment, population health management and affiliation with a larger system before its planned closure of Kingston Hospital, according to a Mid-Hudson News report. The new approach — which has received approval from the state health department — reflects a shift in priorities in line with the current healthcare environment, according to a news release.

Last year, HealthAlliance revealed a plan to close Kingston Hospital and consolidate by moving all operations to its Benedictine Hospital across town. The system's then-President and CEO David Lundquist — who resigned earlier this year for undisclosed reasons and was replaced by David Scarpino — said the system planned to retain as many services as possible but will reduce the number of licensed beds from the 300 currently shared between Benedictine and Kingston.

HealthAlliance is in ongoing discussions with several potential corporate partners including Albany County-based Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center, LaGrangeville, New York City-based  Health Quest, and Montefiore Medical Center in New York City, according to a news release.
