Secaucus, N.J.-based Hudson Regional Hospital received a certificate of need approval from the New Jersey State Department of Health's State health planning board to operate Jersey City, N.J.-based CarePoint Health's Bayonne (N.J.) Medical Center.
CarePoint sought Chapter 11 protection Nov. 3. The system comprises Bayonne Medical Center, Jersey City-based Christ Hospital and Hoboken (N.J.) University Medical Center.
The system is also moving forward with plans to affiliate with Hudson Regional under Hudson Health System, a management services organization.
Hudson Regional already owns the Bayonne Medical Center property, but has been managing the hospital on an interim basis for CarePoint, according to a Dec. 12 news release shared with Becker's.
"We see this transfer as an opportunity to make Bayonne Medical Center a financially secure facility that will control expenses, improve efficiencies and integrate care throughout the Hudson County service area, improving access to care for the county’s residents," Nizar Kifaieh, MD, president and CEO of Hudson Regional, said in the release.
The commissioner of health must now give a final approval.
"CarePoint Health fully supports the new approach of Hudson Regional Hospital, and the leadership team is in sync," a spokesperson for CarePoint Health said in a Dec. 13 statement shared with Becker's.
