HCA buys 11 EDs, expands Texas footprint

HCA Houston Healthcare, part of Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare, has completed the purchase of 11 Houston-area freestanding emergency departments from SignatureCare Emergency Center.

With the deal, HCA Houston Healthcare now has 26 freestanding EDs, in addition to its hospital-based EDs, according to a Dec. 1 news release. HCA did not disclose the financial terms of the deal.

The 11 recently purchased emergency centers, now named HCA Houston ER 24/7, are in Atascocita, Bellaire, Copperfield, Cypress, Memorial City, Mission Bend, Montrose, Spring, Stafford, Heights and Westchase.

"We are very pleased to be expanding our emergency services throughout the Greater Houston area," Troy Villarreal, HCA Healthcare Gulf Coast division president, said in the release. "These 11 locations will join our existing HCA Houston ER 24/7 network to offer residents greater access to providers and specialty services."

HCA Healthcare has been expanding its footprint in Texas as of late. Its Medical City Healthcare in Dallas recently completed its acquisition of three-hospital Wise Health System in Texas. It is also buying bankrupt Trinity Regional Hospital Sachse (Texas) for $41 million in a deal that is expected to close next year. On the outpatient front, HCA Healthcare in recent years has also been ramping up its acquisition of urgent care facilities.
