Casa Grande Regional Medical Center Seeks Potential Buyer

Casa Grande (Ariz.) Regional Medical Center is seeking a potential buyer for at least part of the hospital, according to an Arizona City Independent report.

Rona Curphy, the hospital's president and CEO, told the Independent Casa Grande Regional has hired the consulting firm Hammond Hanlon Camp to help with the process, and confidential information memorandums have been sent to potential partners. The names of those possible partners were not disclosed.

The search for a partner is part of a reorganization plan the hospital has set in motion to cope with increasing costs from uncompensated care, according to the report.

The hospital was recently denied federal matching funds that would have brought in $7 million for the fiscal year ended June 30 and $4 million in the first half of the current fiscal year, according to the report. Under the program, the hospital would have paid into Arizona's Medicaid system, and CMS would have matched those funds two-to-one.

Hospitals in Casa Grande, Tucson, Mesa and Globe have joined forces and reapplied for the funds, emphasizing the fact that rural facilities are often the sole providers of care in large regions, according to the report.
