Washington, D.C.-based BridgePoint Healthcare has expressed interest in taking over the closing Laurel (Md.) Regional Hospital, according to the Washington Business Journal.
Here are four things to know about BridgePoint's proposal for a takeover.
1. The proposal came via a letter from BridgePoint Healthcare CEO Mark Ferrell to leadership at LRH's operator, Cheverly, Md.-based Dimensions Healthcare System.
2. In the letter, Mr. Ferrell asks Dimensions to open discussions about acquiring LRH's operations, according to the Washington Business Journal. According to the report, Mr. Ferrell said in the letter BridgePoint desires to continue acute care, emergency care, post-acute care and ambulatory services at LRH. "We are interested in opening a dialogue between our organizations and are in the process of meeting with stakeholders to determine what the needs are and how we can be the solution to their impending problem of the closure of their longstanding community hospital," Mr. Ferrell told the publication.
3. The proposal from BridgePoint comes about three months after Cheverly, Md.-based Dimensions Healthcare System announced it would close 106-bed LRH and replace it with an ambulatory services center.
4. Dimensions Healthcare System officials said they responded BridgePoint's letter this week, according to the report. "Our plan to transition Laurel Regional Hospital to a comprehensive ambulatory care facility remains firm, as does our commitment to serve the evolving health care needs of the Laurel community," Dimensions spokeswoman Erika Murray told the Washington Business Journal in an emailed statement.
