The following hospital mergers, acquisitions and general transactions took place within the past week, beginning with the most recent.
1. State panel approves Montefiore, White Plains Hospital merger
The New York Public Health and Health Planning Council unanimously approved a proposed affiliation between Montefiore Health System in Bronx, N.Y., and White Plains (N.Y.) Hospital.
2. Community Memorial ends affiliation with Lutheran Health
Community Memorial Hospital in Hicksville, Ohio, decided to end its affiliation with Fort Wayne, Ind.-based Lutheran Health Network.
3. A new 3-system company: Vidant Health, Wake Forest Baptist and WakeMed unite
Three North Carolina health systems — Vidant Health, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and WakeMed Health & Hospitals — are forming a shared services operating company.
4. Anthem Blue Cross, California hospitals to form joint venture
Health insurer Anthem Blue Cross and seven California hospital groups plan to enter into a joint venture with the goal of providing high-quality, coordinated and efficient care throughout the state.
5. Ascension, Envision Healthcare form joint venture
St. Louis-based Ascension Health and Evolution Health — a division of Greenwood Village, Colo.-based Envision Healthcare — formed a joint venture to provide post-acute services, including home care, to individuals in communities served by Ascension's Health Ministries.
6. Jameson Health to join UPMC
Jameson Health System, based in New Castle, Pa., signed a letter of intent to merge with Pittsburgh-based UPMC.
