10 Recent Hospital Transactions and Partnerships

The following hospital mergers, acquisitions and general transactions took place within the past week, beginning with the most recent.

 1. Vanguard, Eastern Connecticut Health Network, Yale Sign Initial Merger Deal
Manchester-based Eastern Connecticut Health Network signed a nonbinding letter of intent to merge with Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanguard Health Systems and Yale New Haven (Conn.) Health System.

2. Baptist Health, Ocean Reef Center Expand Partnership
Coral Gables, Fla.-based Baptist Health South Florida and The Medical Center at Ocean Reef in Key Largo, Fla., entered into an agreement for Baptist to provide support services to Ocean Reef.

3. Arise Healthcare Acquires Austin Surgical Hospital
Arise Healthcare in Austin, Texas, completed the resyndication process for its purchase of Austin Surgical Hospital's assets.

4. Frontier Hospitals Purchases Struggling Lake Whitney Medical Center
Deerfield Beach, Fla.-based Frontier Hospitals purchased Lake Whitney (Texas) Medical Center, which was recently in danger of closing.

5. BayCare, Winter Haven Hospital Finish Merger Deal
Winter Haven (Fla.) Hospital and Clearwater, Fla.-based BayCare Health System completed due diligence, and the merger between the two organizations will go into effect Aug. 30.

6. Cleveland Clinic, ProMedica Sign Affiliation Deal
Cleveland Clinic and Toledo, Ohio-based ProMedica signed a memorandum of understanding to form an affiliation.

7. Franciscan, Harrison Medical Center Affiliation Won't Undergo State Review
The Washington State Department of Health said it will not review the proposed affiliation between Franciscan Health System in Tacoma and Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton after many had called for tougher scrutiny of state hospital transactions.

8. St. Vincent Hospital in Colorado to Partner With Centura Health
St. Vincent Hospital in Leadville, Colo., signed an affiliation and services agreement with Englewood, Colo.-based Centura Health.

9. Portage Health, LifePoint Agree to Joint Venture
Portage Health in Hancock, Mich., signed a definitive agreement to form a joint venture with Brentwood, Tenn.-based LifePoint Hospitals.

10. Montefiore to Buy Sound Shore for $58.6M
Montefiore Medical Center in New York City received approval from a New York bankruptcy court to acquire New Rochelle, N.Y.-based Sound Shore Health System for $58.6 million.
