The Kansas City, Kan.-based University of Kansas Hospital has announced a plan to form a clinical enterprise with University of Kansas Physicians, an independent organization that manages 18 physician practices, and the University of Kansas Medical Center, also in Kansas City, in order to streamline and improve patient care.
The exact structure of the clinical partnership has not yet been decided, as talks will continue through the first half of 2013, but leaders said the model will bring the hospital and the physicians into one organization with physicians holding leadership and board positions. This will align the hospital and physicians more closely and better allow them to focus on population health management.
The partnership is also expected to improve collaboration, reduce duplicate services, consolidate billing and minimize costs.
