New-patient wait times for OB-GYNs in 15 major cities

The average wait for a new patient seeking an appointment with an obstetrician-gynecologist in a major metropolitan area is 26.4 days, according to a recent survey conducted by Merritt Hawkins.

The survey was conducted between Jan. 9 and Feb. 13. Wait times reflect the average number of days a new patient would have wait for an appointment for a routine gynecological exam.

Here is how each of the cities surveyed stacks up, from longest to shortest average wait times for OB-GYNs.

Philadelphia — 51 days
Seattle — 49 days
Boston — 45 days
Atlanta — 39 days
Portland, Ore. — 28 days
Houston — 27 days
Denver — 23 days
Detroit — 23 days
New York City — 19 days
Dallas — 18 days
Miami — 17 days
Washington, D.C. — 17 days
San Diego — 16 days
Los Angeles — 12 days
Minneapolis — 12 days
