Nevada physician accused of accessing private prescription drug records of Las Vegas shooter: 5 things to know

A Nevada physician faces disciplinary action over allegations he accessed the private prescription drug records of the gunman in last year's mass shooting in Las Vegas, according to a USA Today report.

Five things to know:

1. The Nevada State Board of Pharmacy is making the claims against Ivan Goldsmith, MD, and his staff. The board alleges Dr. Goldsmith and his staff accessed Stephen Paddock's private prescription drug records before media published similar information, according to the report.

2. Pharmacy board documents cited by USA Today allege the records were accessed five times over two days after the shooting. Mr. Paddock committed suicide after the shooting and was not alive at the time the records were accessed.

3. After the alleged accessing of Mr. Paddock's records, the Las Vegas Review-Journal and other media reported that Mr. Paddock had been prescribed Valium.

4. Dr. Goldsmith, who owns the TrimCare weight-loss clinic in Las Vegas, faces disciplinary action related to the disclosure of Mr. Paddock's records. The pharmacy board is slated to take up the matter on Sept. 5. During that hearing, Dr. Goldsmith's attorney, Brent Bryson, told USA Today his client will assert his Fifth Amendment right because the pharmacy board reported details about the case to Nevada state law enforcement.

5. Dr. Goldsmith does not face any criminal charges related to the disclosure of Mr. Paddock's records, the Clark County District Attorney's Office confirmed to USA Today. Mr. Bryson told the publication his client plans to sell his Las Vegas medical practice and now lives in Florida, where he has pursued a new job opportunity.
