Michigan physician found dead in pond

Bolek Payan, MD, from Leoni Township, Mich., was found dead in a frozen pond on Dec. 27 after a five-day search, ABC affiliate UpNorthLive reported.

Dr. Payan was last seen leaving work at Henry Ford Jackson (Mich.) Hospital on Dec. 22. Police searched his home, then the ice-covered pond on the property. After cutting holes in the ice, divers located Dr. Payan's body.

Police told UpNorthLive that the Jackson County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy and toxicology testing to further aid in investigating the incident.

"We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Bolek Payan," Henry Ford Health said in a statement sent to Becker's. "Our thoughts, prayers and profound sympathies are with his family, friends and colleagues."
