Florida Blue and Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Fla., have partnered to form an accountable care organization that will focus specifically on cancer patients, starting in 2013.
The goals of the cancer-specific ACO are the same as other, general accountable care programs: to improve patient outcomes and quality of care while lowering healthcare costs. The ACO will focus on "common cancers," according to the press release.
The program will have a value-based compensation structure and Florida Blue and Moffitt will collaboratively identify the program's quality metrics.
