The healthcare sector has donated more than $5 million to candidates running for president in 2020, according to an analysis conducted by Business Insider.
For all the Democratic candidates in the top five, most of the donations have not come from insurance or pharmaceutical companies, according to Business Insider's analysis. This could be because Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., made a pledge this month to reject donations over $200 from insurance and drug companies and called on his fellow Democrats to do the same.
Here are the five candidates who have received the most from the healthcare sector:
- President Donald Trump (R) — $1.4 million
- South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D) — $548,014
- Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif. — $517,430
- Former Vice President Joe Biden (D) — $462,335
- Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. (D) — $359,986
