Indianapolis-based St. Vincent Health, part of St. Louis-based Ascension, confirmed plans to reduce 85 positions within its network of hospitals, according to a Current report.
Here are three things to know about the reductions:
1. St. Vincent Health attributed the job cuts to its partnership with R1, a provider of revenue cycle management and physician advisory services.
"Through our partnership with R1, we are evolving our revenue cycle work to help us meet the needs of individuals in the communities we serve and deliver a better patient experience. Many associates who hold these positions at Ascension's sites of care will remain in their local facilities, though some positions will be moved to a shared service site in another location," St. Vincent said in an emailed statement to Becker's Hospital Review. "All affected associates will be provided an option to relocate that includes relocation assistance, as well as transition support for associates who decline these positions."
2. Affected positions include an information management team leader, a patient access system manager, two patient access team leaders, nine insurance and pre-certification specialists, 25 patient access representatives and nearly 50 medical records transcriptionists, according to the Current, which cites a letter released May 30 by St. Vincent.
3. The letter indicates job cuts will begin at the end of July, although some may not occur until September, according to the report.
