SK&A released the 2017 update of its "Top 50 Medical Groups: Market Insights Report" this month.
SK&A named the 50 largest medical groups by the number of affiliated physicians and included information on the number of offices per group and average number of physicians per office. The organization maintains information on 2.2 million healthcare practitioners.

Here are the top 20 groups by the number of physicians, per the SK&A report:

- Southern California Permanente Medical Group (Pasadena): 8,400
- The Permanente Medical Group (Oakland, Calif.): 8,000
- Group Health Physicians/Group Health Permanente: Nearly 1,400 (Includes physicians, PAs midwives, mental health specialists, osteopaths, and optometrists focused on prevention, evidence-based practices and patient-centered care)
- Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (Rockville, Md.): 1,250
- Northwest Permanente, P.C. (Portland, Ore.): 1,245
- Colorado Permanente Medical Group, P.C. (Denver): 1,195
