Atlanta-based Piedmont Healthcare has named two new members to its board of directors and a new chairwoman of the board.
Here are nine things to know about the new chairwoman and new members.
Janine Brown, partner-in-charge of the Atlanta office of Alston & Bird LLP, has been elected to serve as chairwoman of the board.
1. Ms. Brown has served on the boards of Piedmont Healthcare and Piedmont Atlanta Hospital over the past decade, most recently as vice chair of the Piedmont Healthcare board.
2. Ms. Brown is succeeding Patrick Battey, MD, who has served as board chair and in January was named co-President and CEO of Piedmont Atlanta Hospital.
Tye Darland is joining the board.
3. Mr. Darland is senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of paper company Georgia-Pacific.
4. His legal specialties include mergers and acquisitions and commercial law.
5. He currently serves on the board of directors of Zoo Atlanta and the Atlanta Police Foundation, and on the board of visitors for Georgia State College of Law.
6. Mr. Darland is also the co-chairman of the annual fund campaign for the Atlanta Legal Aid Society.
Todd Schmidt, MD, is also joining the board.
7. Mr. Schmidt is an orthopedic surgeon on staff at Piedmont Henry Hospital in Stockbridge, Ga., and Piedmont Fayette Hospital in Fayetteville, Ga.
8. He is co-founder of his practice, OrthoAtlanta, and a member of the Piedmont Clinic.
9. In addition to his medical expertise in orthopedic surgery, he serves on the board of the Georgia Orthopedic Society, the governing board of PiedmontHenryHospital, the board of counselors of the AmericanAcademy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the clinical advisory committee for Cahaba Government Benefit Administrators.
