Healthcare among top issues for voters, new poll finds

With congressional primaries underway and midterm elections coming in November, one of the most important issues for most Americans is healthcare, according to a new poll from the Kaiser Family Foundation.

The phone survey was conducted June 11-20 among a nationally representative, random sample of 1,492 adults.

A plurality of respondents (25 percent) called healthcare the most important issue they want 2018 candidates to talk about during the campaign, while 54 percent said it was very important but not the most important issue. The second most important issue for voters was the economy and jobs, with 23 percent of respondents calling it the most important issue.

Healthcare is a more important issue for Democrats than Republicans, with 33 percent of Democrats calling it the most important issue while only 18 percent of Republicans thought of it the same way.

The single most important healthcare issue was continuing protections for people with pre-existing health conditions, according to 14 percent of respondents.
