Utica, N.Y.-based Faxton St. Luke's Healthcare has laid off 16 employees and eliminated 90 other vacant full-time equivalent positions, according to a report by the Observer-Dispatch.
The layoffs affected clinical and nonclinical employees, according to the report.
Faxton St. Luke's has lost more than $4 million so far this year due in part to lower Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements and changing patient volumes, according to the Observer-Dispatch. "The healthcare arena is in constant change. We have seen patients migrate to free-standing outpatient centers, as well as a decrease in the number of inpatients in the hospital setting," Faxton St. Luke's President and CEO Scott Perra told the paper.
