Oak Bluffs, Mass.-based Martha's Vineyard Hospital and its former CEO have reached an agreement after roughly a year of arbitration, a hospital spokesperson confirmed to the Vineyard Gazette Oct. 1.
Martha's Vineyard Hospital abruptly fired its former CEO Joe Woodin in June 2017 after 13 months on the job. The move drew criticism from many community members. However, the board stood by its decision.
Mr. Woodin filed a breach of contract action against the hospital in October 2017, and the hospital promptly filed a counterclaim against him.
"Martha's Vineyard Hospital and Mr. Woodin have reached an agreement in mediation. MVH is not disclosing the details of the agreement. Our focus at MVH remains on our mission and work we do to promote the best health care in our community," a hospital spokesperson told Becker's Hospital Review in an emailed statement Oct. 2.
The Vineyard Gazette could not reach Mr. Woodin, who has served as the CEO of Homer, Alaska-based South Peninsula Hospital since March, for comment.
