The new CEO of Woman's Hospital in Baton Rouge, La., said the most critical health issues the hospital is prioritizing are premature birth rates and maternal deaths, according to the Greater Baton Rouge Business Report.
Barbara Griffith, MD, became CEO of the hospital in fall 2019. She is the successor to Teri Fontenot, who retired in March 2019 after 27 years with the organization.
Dr. Griffith said Woman's Hospital is working to address premature birth rates and maternal deaths in several different ways. For example, the hospital has eliminated elective deliveries prior to 39 weeks gestation, she told the publication.
"Within the hospital, we have physicians and nurses, social workers and psychiatrists working together to improve how we manage the largest drivers of preterm birth, such as high blood pressure and drug use," Dr. Griffith told the Greater Baton Rouge Business Report. "Outside of our walls, we are working with local physician offices to provide social work support to high-risk patients."
