AHA launches innovation challenge to tackle social determinants of health

The American Hospital Association has opened applications for its second annual AHA Innovation Challenge.

The program invites AHA members and their partners to consider new ways to apply technology to address social determinants of health. Applicants must submit proposals for sustainable and scalable projects that use technology to improve care for a defined target population.

"Through this year's innovation challenge, our goal is to improve living conditions of our most vulnerable populations by pushing the boundaries of today's and tomorrow's technologies," Jay Bhatt, DO, senior vice president and CMO of the AHA, said in a news release.

The top three proposals will receive $100,000, $25,000 or $15,000 in funding to pursue their projects.

The deadline to submit applications is May 24, and the AHA plans to announce its award recipients at the trade group's leadership summit in San Diego July 25-27.
