Thousands of registered nurses are prepared for a one-day strike on Christmas Eve across nine hospitals in the San Francisco Bay Area, according to an Associated Press/San Francisco Chronicle report.
The hospitals include seven within the Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health system and two hospitals in San Jose, Calif., that are affiliated with Nashville, Tenn.–based Hospital Corporation of America.
Nurses and X-ray technicians who are represented by the California Nurses Association are striking in response to a "lingering dispute" between union and hospital officials over staffing levels, health benefits and sick days, according to the report. This will be CNA's eighth strike since September 2011.
