Nearly half of CEOs believe most or all of their role should be automated or replaced by AI, according to a recent report from edX.
The online education platform — founded by Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, both based in Cambridge, Mass. — surveyed 800 non-executive knowledge workers (including individual contributors and managers) and 800 C-suite executives (including more than 500 CEOs) during July.
Forty-seven percent of C-suite executives said "most or all" of the CEO role should be completely automated or replaced by AI — and 49% of CEOs agreed.
The sentiment grew when the question was asked of the whole C-suite: 56% of executives said they believe leadership roles at their organization will be "completely" or "partially" replaced by AI.
The survey also revealed a disconnect between how employees and leaders view their jobs. C-suite leaders estimate that 56% of entry-level knowledge workers' jobs will be eliminated by AI, though only 20% of employees said AI could do "most" or "all" of their job.
