Baptist Memorial Health Care Proposes New Site for Planned Cancer Center

Memphis, Tenn.-based Baptist Memorial Health Care Corp. has proposed moving its planned $84.8 million cancer center closer to its Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis, according to a Commercial Appeal report.

BMHCC originally proposed to build the cancer center at two adjacent sites at a different location. The new proposed location, in a building that houses retailers and a restaurant, would bring the center closer to its Memphis campus, which offers other services cancer patients may need, as well as physician offices. The planned cancer center would encompass 153,200 square feet, and would consolidate BMHCC's cancer services in one location.

In addition to plans for a cancer center, BMHCC is seeking approval for a $14 million expansion of its emergency department at Baptist Memorial Hospital for Women in Memphis, according to the report. The 37,500-square-foot expansion would relocate pediatric emergency services to the women's hospital to support other pediatric services that have moved from Baptist Memphis to Baptist Women's Hospital over the past year, according to the report.
