Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, based in Park Ridge, Ill., became the first hospital in the Midwest to offer its patients 3D mammography, according to a Park Ridge Trib Local report.
The technology, which is also known as digital breast tomosynthesis, could give physicians improved breast cancer screening and detection, offering three-dimensional images of thin layers of breast tissue.
DBT also aims to eliminate discrepancies between harmless irregularities and actual cancerous tumors.
