Mansfield (Ohio) Hospital, part of Ontario, Ohio-based MedCentral Health System, will now qualify for higher Medicare reimbursements comparable to Columbus, Ohio-area hospitals, according to a news release from the office of Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio).
Mansfield was losing about $6 million per year in Medicare reimbursements, the release said. The hospital sought a geographic wage index reclassification to the Columbus-area wage index, but it did not meet one of the criteria, which involved wages that are 108 percent of other hospitals in the urban area.
However, CMS recently eliminated that criterion for hospitals alone in their areas, which resulted in Mansfield becoming eligible to quality for Medicare reimbursements comparable to Columbus-area hospitals, the release said.
