Hoboken, N.J., Mayor Dawn Zimmer is asking for community support of a recent Hoboken Municipal Hospital Authority vote that would allow ownership of Hoboken University Medical Center to be transferred to HUMC Holdco for $91.7 million, according to a news report by The Jersey Journal.
Mayor Zimmer responded to consumer concerns that privatizing the hospital would negatively impact patient care. However, the ownership transfer would allow the hospital to stay open for at least seven more years, invest in technology and expand patient services, none of which the city can fund alone, Mayor Zimmer said.
The community approval process can take several months, in which time Mayor Zimmer and HUMC will be hosting community meetings to answer questions and address concerns.
