California's Marin General Hospital Partners With County to Improve Maternity Care

Marin County has partnered with Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae, Calif., Prima Medical Foundation and Marin Community Clinics to continue its full service OB/GYN program for patients without private insurance, according to a hospital news release.

Marin County has been running the program in partnership with Marin General Hospital but recently had to cut funding by 40 percent. The new partnership will continue to provide maternity services to uninsured women and will improve the hospital's maternity services for privately insured women, according to the release.

Under the agreement, Marin Community Clinics will be responsible for prenatal care, Prima will provide certified nurse midwives; and qualified OB/GYN physicians to Marin Community Clinics and the hospital's inpatient program; and Marin General Hospital will offer round-the-clock midwifery services and physician-directed deliveries for all women regardless of insurance status. This arrangement is designed to give women more choices in maternity services.
